Logging food
Log food step by step: when you ate, finding the food, what you usually eat, how much, and fixing an entry later.
Opening Log food
In the Menu tab, the food diary has a + Log food button, and the Log button on the diary widget opens the same sheet. It opens on the meal for the time of day. Logging food is part of Mealuna Premium.
Nothing is saved until you press Log, Log and add another, or the + beside one of your usual foods.
When you ate
The When row at the top shows the day, the time and the meal. Tap it to change them: choose the day, up to a week back, then a meal — Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner fills in its usual time — or move the time with − and + in steps of 15 minutes. The meal follows from the time, and the diary never logs the future.
Turn on All from elsewhere for a meal that did not come from your pantry — a restaurant, a visit, a canteen. Every food you log in it then counts as Elsewhere and the pantry does not change; see Where did the food come from?
Finding the food
Type in Search food… to find a product or one of your own foods; suggestions appear above the field as you type. The barcode icon on the left of the field scans a package.
Not there? Type its name and tap + to add it as your own food. Enter the protein, carbs, fat and fibre of the whole food, and Mealuna works out the energy: 4 × protein + 4 × carbs + 9 × fat + 2 × fibre. It is saved to your own foods, so next time you find it in the search. How much did you eat? counts portions of it, and you can set half a portion.
A product with no nutrition in your group says so and offers Enter macros myself. And when the search finds nothing at all, the Ask AI button above the keyboard takes what you typed to your AI assistant — see Logging food with your AI.
What you usually eat
While the search is empty, Usually: shows up to six foods you have eaten at this meal over the last four weeks, each with the amount and calories of last time.
- + logs it at once, with the amount from last time
- A tick means it is already in this meal
- Tap the row to change the amount before logging
- A dish the app does not know was made always asks first
- The note on the right says what happens to the pantry: an amount comes off it, not in pantry leaves it alone
How much
A product opens on its amount: type it, drag the slider, or tap Last time, 1 serving, Whole product or a quick amount such as 100 g. Drinks are in millilitres. Nutrition is calculated per 100 g, and Consumed nutrition shows what this amount adds.
If the product is in your pantry, Where did the food come from? asks whether it came from there, and lowers the pantry when it did.
Log, or log and add another
Log saves the food and closes the sheet. Log and add another saves it and keeps the sheet open on the same meal for the next food, and In this meal shows how many foods it already has and their calories. Choose another food goes back without logging.
The message after logging has Undo.
Fixing or repeating an entry
In the diary, tap an entry to change its amount or time. Touch and hold it for Edit, Log again and Delete, or swipe it to the left to delete it. To repeat a whole meal from the past week, touch and hold its heading and choose Log this meal again today…
With your AI
Below the search, Log with a photo or description opens your own AI assistant: it recognises the food from a photo or a few words, and Mealuna opens with it filled in.
