Mealuna Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Mealuna — an app for iOS and Android, and a website — that help families and households plan shopping, track what is in the pantry, and decide what to eat.
Mealuna is operated by Varres Solutions OÜ, a company registered in Estonia. In these Terms, "we", "us", "our", and "Mealuna" mean Varres Solutions OÜ. "You" means the person using the app or website.
Please read these Terms carefully. By creating an account or using Mealuna, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Last updated: 26 October 2026.
1. Acceptance of these Terms
By downloading, accessing, or using Mealuna, you confirm that you have read these Terms and agree to be bound by them. You also confirm that you accept our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle your data.
If you use Mealuna on behalf of a group, you confirm that you have the authority to invite and manage the other members of that group, and that you will keep them informed about how shared data is used.
If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you should stop using the service and may delete your account at any time.
2. What Mealuna does
Mealuna is a practical tool for shopping and eating together. The core service includes shopping lists, a shared product catalog, smart add and barcode scanning, nutrition collection, an allergy profile, and a pantry you can manage and keep in sync across devices.
Paid tiers add features such as more groups and lists, recipes and menu planning, pantry auto-add, consumption insight, nutrition display, and comparing a scanned product against alternatives in a partner store. The exact features available to you depend on your subscription tier and the group you are in. See the Subscriptions section below.
We describe features honestly. Some features are planned but not yet active, and we mark these clearly.
- Health integration is available with Premium: on iOS through Apple Health (HealthKit) and on Android through Health Connect. Mealuna can read activity and body data and write body measurements back, on your device. Nutrition is written to Apple Health on iOS only.
- Store shopping is part of Premium and works only where a partner store operates — Selver, Rimi and Barbora in Estonia today. Prices, products and availability come from the store's own catalogue and can change at any time; the store calculates the final amount, and the order itself is placed and paid on the store's own site under the store's terms.
- Coming soon: AI-assisted recipe sharing. Where the app references AI recipe features that are not yet live, they are not part of the current service.
- Nutrition and food information shown in Mealuna is for general guidance only. It is not medical, dietary, or health advice. Always check product packaging and consult a qualified professional for allergy, medical, or dietary decisions.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 16 years old to use Mealuna, or older if the law in your country sets a higher age for using online services or giving consent to data processing. By using the service you confirm that you meet this requirement.
To use Mealuna you create an account. We offer two sign-in methods, and you can choose the one you prefer.
You are responsible for keeping access to your sign-in method secure. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account. If you believe your account has been used without your permission, please contact us.
- Sign in with Apple.
- Google Sign-In. On iOS this uses the GoogleSignIn-iOS SDK, which also bundles transitive Google libraries, including Firebase App Check, GoogleUtilities, and AppAuth. On Android it uses the system Credential Manager with Google Play services, and bundles none of those.
4. Acceptable use
Mealuna is meant for personal and household use. You agree to use it lawfully and to respect other members of your groups.
We may suspend or limit access to protect the service or other users if these rules are broken.
- Do not use Mealuna for any unlawful purpose, or to store or share content you do not have the right to share.
- Do not upload content that is abusive, harmful, or infringes someone else's rights.
- Do not attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the service or other users' data.
- Do not add people to a group without a reasonable basis to do so, and respect that shared lists, receipts, and costs are visible to other group members.
- Do not resell or commercially exploit the service without our written permission.
5. Subscriptions and billing
Mealuna offers a Free tier and a paid Premium tier. The earlier Basic tier is no longer offered in the current apps; an existing Basic subscription keeps its benefits until it ends. Premium comes in a Personal axis (for one person) and a Family axis (where the buyer sponsors their group). Family tier means the buyer pays for and extends benefits to their Mealuna group. It is NOT Apple Family Sharing.
Paid subscriptions bought in the iOS app are sold and processed by the Apple App Store; those bought in the Android app are sold and processed by Google Play. The store handles payment, billing, and renewals under its own terms. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel. You manage, change, or cancel a subscription — and turn off auto-renew — in the store you bought it from: App Store account settings for a purchase made on iOS, or Google Play subscriptions for a purchase made on Android. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not refund the current period. Refund requests are handled by that store, not by us.
Your subscription is verified with the store that sold it. On iOS the app sends Apple's signed transaction from your device to our backend, which verifies it. On Android the app sends the Google Play purchase token, and our backend confirms it with the Google Play Developer API. Either way we store your tier, the product identifier, the expiry date, whether you hold a founding-member offer, and the verified store transaction identifier. We do not receive server-to-server notification payloads, and we do not store raw purchase payloads or payment details.
Prices are shown in the app and may differ by region and over time. We may change prices for future billing periods; any change applies to renewals after the change, and the store will inform you where required.
Where a tier below lists ad-free use as a benefit, that refers to iOS versions 1.0.24 and earlier, which show ads on the free tier. From version 1.0.25 the iOS app shows no ads on any plan, and the Android app contains no advertising at all; in both, every plan is ad-free.
- Free (Personal): €0. Includes 2 groups with up to 3 lists each, shopping list with catalog and smart add, barcode scan with nutrition collection, allergy profile, a manually managed pantry with expiry tracking that syncs across devices, and cost splitting with receipt scanning and purchase history.
- Premium (Personal): €3.99/month or €39.99/year. Adds ad-free use, 10 groups with 10 lists per group, recently-bought quick-add, purchase suggestions, pantry auto-add and consumption insight, nutrition display, recipes and menu planning, a diet profile, health integration (Apple Health on iOS, Health Connect on Android), and scanning a product to compare it with alternatives where a partner store operates.
- Premium (Family): €5.99/month or €54.99/year. Extends Premium's in-group features to everyone in the sponsored group. Each member's personal allowances, such as their own group limit and ad-free use, follow their own plan.
- Free trial: paid tiers include a 14-day free trial. The store grants it once per store account and subscription — once per Apple ID and subscription group on iOS, once per Google account and subscription on Android — so it is not available if you have previously subscribed to Mealuna on that store. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, the subscription begins and the first period is charged.
- Founding-member offer: the first 500 founding members receive a reduced lifetime price (Premium Personal €19.99/year, Premium Family €29.99/year). A Premium subscriber who is not a founding member may switch to the founding price while places remain; depending on the store and the current plan, the switch starts at once or when the current period ends.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of the content you create in Mealuna, such as your shopping lists, recipes, notes, pantry items, and receipt images.
To run the service, we need a limited licence to use that content. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, sync, and display your content for the purpose of operating Mealuna for you and the members of your groups. This licence exists only so the service can work; it ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that are temporarily retained in routine backups.
Content you add to a shared group is visible to other members of that group. Please keep this in mind for receipts and anything else that may contain personal or financial detail.
We do not sell your content, and we do not use it to train third-party advertising profiles.
- Receipt images and the food log are handled as described below and in our Privacy Policy. The food log is stored on your device and is not synced to our servers. Your phone's own backup can include it; that copy belongs to your Google or Apple account, not to us.
- Some clean-up and retention periods are defined in the service (for example, receipt purge after 30 days, share-link deletion after 72 hours, and archive purge after 90 days). These automated clean-ups run nightly and actively delete the data once its period has passed, except the financial-records purge, which is not yet active.
7. Open Food Facts contributions
Mealuna can contribute product information (such as barcode, name, and nutrition data) to Open Food Facts, an open, public food database.
Contributions are opt-in and are made under Open Food Facts' open licence terms. Product data you contribute becomes part of a public, openly licensed database and can be reused by anyone under that licence.
Contributions are submitted through a single shared Mealuna account on Open Food Facts. They are not attributed to you individually, and no end-user identifier is sent to Open Food Facts.
8. Third-party services
Mealuna relies on third-party services to function. Your use of these is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for how they operate.
We do not include analytics or crash-reporting SDKs in Mealuna on either platform. From version 1.0.25 the iOS app contains no advertising SDK and shows no ads. Older iOS versions (1.0.24 and earlier) show ads on the free tier through Google AdMob, which may use the iOS advertising identifier (IDFA) with your consent; those versions show the App Tracking Transparency prompt for this, and the paid plans are ad-free. The Android app contains no advertising SDK and shows no ads on any plan. We request camera access for barcode and receipt scanning.
- Apple App Store, for purchases and subscription billing on iOS, and Sign in with Apple.
- Google Play, for purchases and subscription billing on Android; our backend verifies each purchase with the Google Play Developer API.
- Google Sign-In: on iOS via the GoogleSignIn-iOS SDK, which bundles transitive Google libraries including Firebase App Check, GoogleUtilities, and AppAuth; on Android via the system Credential Manager, which bundles none of those.
- Google AdMob, which serves the ads on the free tier of iOS versions 1.0.24 and earlier (personalised only with your consent); the paid plans are ad-free. AdMob is not present from iOS version 1.0.25 on, or in the Android app.
- Our backend and authentication provider (Supabase), used for accounts and sync.
- Open Food Facts, for opt-in product contributions as described above.
- Websites you choose to import a recipe from: when you paste a recipe link, your device fetches that page directly from the site in question (for TikTok links, via TikTok's public oEmbed endpoint). That site sees the request as it would any visit. We do not proxy or store the request.
- Partner stores (Selver, Rimi and Barbora in Estonia today), when you choose to hand a basket over to them to finish the order — either by opening the store's website or by having Mealuna add the lines to your basket on the store's own site.
- An AI assistant you choose to connect to Mealuna, so it can answer questions about your lists, pantry, menu plan and recipes and, if you allow changes for it, put meal drafts into your menu plan for you to confirm, mark recipes as your favourites, save, change and delete your group's recipes, and change your group's shopping lists and pantry. What that assistant does with what you send it is between you and whoever operates it.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
Mealuna is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We work to keep it reliable and accurate, but we do not guarantee that it will always be available, error-free, or that scanned, calculated, or displayed information (including nutrition, allergy, expiry, and cost-split data) is complete or correct.
Nutrition, allergy, and dietary information is for general guidance only and is not a substitute for reading product labels or seeking professional advice. You are responsible for your own health, dietary, and financial decisions.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, or for loss of data, arising from your use of Mealuna. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including your statutory consumer rights under European Union and Estonian law.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.
10. Termination and account deletion
You can stop using Mealuna at any time and delete your account from within the app. Deleting your account removes your personal data from our active systems, including your profile, memberships, device sync cursors, subscription records, and entitlement grants, subject to any retention required by law and routine backups that expire over time. In groups where you are the only member all content is deleted; in groups with other members the shared lists, pantry and financial history remain with them.
Cancelling a paid subscription is handled through the store you bought it from — the App Store or Google Play — and is separate from deleting your account. If you delete your account, you may still need to cancel an active subscription in that store to stop future billing.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you seriously or repeatedly breach these Terms, or where required to protect the service or other users. Where reasonable and lawful, we will give you notice.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Estonia and the European Union, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), without affecting any mandatory consumer protections that apply to you in your country of residence.
If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it will be subject to the courts of Estonia, unless mandatory law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own country.
If you are a consumer in the European Union, you may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect new features, legal requirements, or the activation of features currently marked as coming soon.
If we make a significant change, we will give reasonable notice, such as a notice in the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when the Terms were last revised.
Your continued use of Mealuna after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you may stop using the service and delete your account.
