Privacy & data

Privacy and your data

What stays on your device and what syncs to your group.

On-device by default

Mealuna is offline-first and privacy-first. Your list and pantry work without internet, and your food diary, body measurements and health data never reach Mealuna's servers.

Receipt reading also happens on your device.

What syncs

Shared content like your list, pantry, purchases, and balances syncs to the members of your group so everyone sees the same thing. Mealuna sends only what changed, not your whole list each time.

Your food diary, body measurements and health data are not synced to Mealuna’s servers; they stay on your device. A food you log from the pantry lowers your group's pantry, and that new pantry amount syncs like any other pantry change; the diary entry does not. Your phone's own backup can include it, and we recommend turning that on — on Android with a screen lock the backup is encrypted with a key that stays on your phone, so neither Google nor Mealuna can read it. If you enable it, body measurements and nutrition can sync with Apple Health on-device. Diet and cuisine preferences and ingredient exclusions are shared with your group so meal planning works for everyone; allergens are shared only if you turn on allergen sharing.

Leaving a group or deleting your account

You can leave a group at any time. You can also delete your account from Settings, which removes your account from Mealuna.
